A map showing the thirty districts of Orissa and location of ISKCON Gadei Giri, Berhampur and Bahanaga temples
Bahanaga is an extention of the Sri Sri Radha Gopal Jiu Mandir of ISKCON Gadei Giri. It is located just off the National Hwy 5 and near the Bahanaga railway station, 25 km south of Balasore and 35 km south of Sri Kisore Chora Gopinatha temple in Remuna.
It is the expressed desire of Srila Bhakti Svarupa Damodara Maharaja that this temple become a fully functioning ISKCON center. He said, "Anyone returning from Sri Kisore Chora Gopinatha temple in Remuna may stop over and take prasadam do kirtan and continue on to their destination." As it is still to be fully developed the overnight accomodation is still under construction. For further inquiries please contact Kala Krishna Prabhu at the center on: 06788-236981.
Sri Govardhan Puja was observed for the first time in Bahanaga in 2007. About 200 congregational members and devotees came with many types of bhoga offerings for Sri Govardhan. During the Kartik month about forty devotees and congregational members continued sankirtan-padayatra for seventeen days. It ended at the Bahanaga center on Kartik purnima day.
On January 1st, 2008, an unfortunate incident occured when the thatched temple caught fire and was destroyed. Devotees promptly consrtucted a new but temporary temple room made of stone for Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha Jiu and seva-puja is now going on nicely. The cost was 5-6 lakhs Rs. A large kirtan hall, Deity kitchen room, permanent accomodation for two resident devotees and overnight accomodation for visiting devotees are all planned for construction.
